According to property platform Rightmove, these cities are the top in the UK for selling property. This takes into consideration average selling time and average asking price.

  1. Newquay, Cornwall – 82% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £351,398.
  2. Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside – 81.8% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £182,280.
  3. Plymstock, Devon – 81.2% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £268,980.
  4. Hailsham, East Sussex – 81.1% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £310,642.
  5. Canvey Island, Essex – 80.5% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £302,769.
  6. Atherton, Manchester – 80.3% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £153,540.
  7. Quedgeley, Gloucestershire – 80.1% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £237,007.
  8. Willingdon, East Sussex – 79.2% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £326,338.
  9. Whitchurch, Bristol – 78.2% of properties sold after being put on the market this year with an average asking price of £293,021.

What makes these top cities desirable?

Newquay – An up and coming surf city with a relaxed coastal feel, Newquay is fast becoming one of the best places to buy or sell property in the UK. With so many people looking for a change in lifestyle, this surf capital is a great blend of coastal life with all the amenities of a cosmopolitan city. With attractions such as Fistral Beach, Newuay has the highest portion of homes provisionally sold after being put on the market this year. Newquay comes in at the top of the list at 82%. Estate agents in the area have seen an ‘endless demand’ for properties in this Cornish city. The average asking price in the city is around £350,000. It seems that the Covid crisis has boosted the sales of properties in the area as people look to purchase second homes or relocate to the coast.

Merseyside – According to figures from Rightmove, Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside is the second best place for selling a property in the UK. Just under 82% of the homes in Newton-le-Willows have been sold subject to contract this year. The city has seen a lot of development over the last couple of years and these improvements have brought a great deal of value to the area. As the city continues to develop and improve, the housing market has seen more and more activity. The average asking price in the area is around £182,000.

Which parts of the city are selling?

The evidence seems to be suggesting that suburbs are proving more popular than city centers. As many employers switch to permanent remote working or a hybrid approach, the center of the city is becoming a less desirable place to live. According to the property platform only 18.4% of homes put up for sale in Birmingham city center this year and told. Across Britain, around 66% of properties are currently sold subject to contract. It seems to be a good time for sellers all round, as Rightmove has recorded 20 of the busiest days for visits to the website in the last year. However, the market is favoring those selling in the suburbs of up and coming cities.
